We might think of peace as simply the absence of war. But some scholars and advocates argue that peace isn’t just passive, and it isn’t simply the absence of conflict. Instead, peace is a process that must be cultivated and sustained by intentional choices and the development of peace skills. The problem is that many of us have never been taught how to practice peace, and our peace skills might be quite rusty. And a lot of our digital landscape seems to be designed (whether intentionally or not) to make peace harder and harder to cultivate. In this episode, Jill interviews Dr. Sharyn Clough about Peace Literacy. What does it mean to think of peace as a literacy and what kind of skills might be useful in practicing peace? And what are the challenges (and opportunities) that the current digital landscape offers for cultivating a practice of peace?
